U.S. CUSTOMS TO COLLECT DUTIES ON IMPORTED COSTUMES
The U.S. Customs Service has announced that it will begin collecting duties on imported costumes that previously entered the country duty-free, effective March 2.
The agency is taking this action in response to a Feb. 19 ruling made by the U.S. Court of International Trade in the Rubie’s Costume versus the United States case. The court ruled that imported costumes are textile products and should be classified as wearing apparel.
