COAST GUARD FINALIZES TANKER SECURITY ZONE RULE FOR PUGET SOUND
The U.S. Coast Guard has finalized its security zone rules for tank ships operating in the Puget Sound area in the Pacific Northwest.
The agency published a proposed rulemaking for the Puget Sound security zone on Dec. 27. With little to no opposition, the Coast Guard will finalize these measures on April 15.
The security zone will exclude persons and vessels from the immediate vicinity of all tank ships. “Entry into this zone will be prohibited unless authorized by the captain of the port or his designee,” the Coast Guard said.
