MSC COMPLETES DEPLOYMENT OF 6,300-TEU SHIPS ON ASIA/EUROPE ROUTE
Mediterranean Shipping Co., the expanding Geneva-based container shipping line, has completed the re-tonnaging of its Asia/Europe container service, after introducing a 10th new ship of about 6,300-TEU capacity.
The 304-meter-long post-Panamax “MSC Loretta” has joined MSC’s independent weekly container service between Asia and Europe. The latest new ship, and others introduced by MSC in this service, have replaced smaller ships of about 4,000 TEUs, resulting in the addition of more than 50 percent in available capacity.
The 6,300-TEU vessels are the largest in the fleet of the Swiss carrier.
MSC has another six post-Panamax ships of about 6,300-TEU capacity on order, and has not said on which trade they will be used.
