Paper products company seeks STB approval for railroad spur
Koch Cellulose has requested streamlined U.S. Surface Transportation Board approval of its acquisition of a short rail line from wood products producer Georgia Pacific Corp.
Koch recently signed a deal to acquire Georgia Pacific's non-integrated market and fluff pulp operations, including the Leaf River Pulp Mill in New Augusta, Miss., and the Old Augusta Railroad Co. The railroad operates on 2.5 miles of track that connects the plant to the Canadian National Railway Co. interchange.
The railroad will be renamed the Old Augusta Railroad LLC once the acquisition is completed as expected in early May, according to the Federal Register notice.
