Iranian carrier orders 6,500-TEU ships from Hanjin Heavy Industries
Hanjin Heavy Industries & Constructions said Wednesday it has received orders from two new customers, state-owned ocean carrier Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and German ship-owner NSC, for containerships with a combined value of $740 million.
IRISL has ordered four 6,500-TEU ships at a cost of $420 million while NSC has placed an order for four 5,100-TEU vessels valued at $320 million.
“HHIC received very efficient ship orders while raw material cost is high and exchange rate is low. Contract with new shipping companies means a lot because it makes multiplying markets and assorting orders possible,” Hanjin said.
