Continental says good-bye to MD-80

Continental Airlines retired its last MD-80 aircraft Monday as part of a cost-cutting effort to get rid of aging aircraft, increase fuel efficiency and streamline its fleet.

The Houston-based airline said it will be easier to operate and maintain its fleet with just three types of aircraft: the Boeing 777, the 767/757, and 737 models.

   Continental has 348 aircraft.
