SINOTRANS TO USE HANJIN’S TERMINALS
Sinotrans Container Lines will use three container terminals operated by Hanjin Shipping under a contract agreed between the two Asian carriers.
Sinotrans’ new independent transpacific service, China America Express, will utilize Hanjin’s terminals at Long Beach, Oakland and Busan. Hanjin estimates that it will handle roughly 250,000 TEUs annually for Sinotrans at the three terminals.
Hanjin said that terminal logistics services is a new profit source for carriers.
The Korean shipping group will open a 365-acre container terminal in Long Beach in August that will be the second largest terminal in North America.
At present, Hanjin operates a total of nine container terminals worldwide, located in Seattle, Long Beach, Oakland, Busan-Gamcheon, Busan-Gamman, Kwangyang, Osaka, Tokyo and Kaohsiung.
