Port of Long Beach July throughput soars
Export container volume at the Port of Long Beach continued to soar this year, with a 29.7 percent rise in July over the same month in 2004.
Imports grew only 2.7 percent from July 2004, resulting in total loaded TEU growth of 8.8 percent for the month. For the year, imports are up 15.7 percent to 1.86 million TEUs, and exports are up 21.8 percent to 698,907 TEUs. Total loaded TEU growth is 17.3 percent for the year.
Empties in Long Beach have shot up 30.9 percent for the year, with some speculating that loaded containers diverted to other West Coast ports are ending up leaving the country empty through Long Beach and Los Angeles.
