MarAd approves tanker scrapping
The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved Toledo, Ohio-based Western Overseas’ request to sell a 44,906-gross-ton tanker for scrapping.
The “Overseas New York” will be sold to Snow Drop Co., a British Virgin Islands corporation, and transferred to Mongolian flag registry for scrapping in Bangladesh, India or Pakistan. The vessel was built in San Diego, Calif., in 1977.
Under section 9 of the 1916 Shipping Act, MarAd must approve requests to scrap U.S.-flag vessels.
