UNITED ENTERS VENTURE TO PROVIDE SAME-DAY SERVICE
United New Ventures, a new unit of United Airlines, has entered into an agreement with NextJet Inc. to provide same-day, door-to-door package delivery services within the United States, starting in December.
United SameDay will use NextJet's proprietary technology that evaluates millions of potential shipment possibilities and automatically selects the most efficient routing option from a nationwide force of couriers and about 30,000 daily commercial airline flights.
The same-day service targets time-sensitive shipments, such as electronic components, computer equipment and automotive parts, as well as pharmaceuticals and documents.
Customers will be able to initiate a United SameDay shipment using a credit card online at http://www.unitedsameday.com. The service provides instant itineraries, pricing information and real-time updates, by phone or e-mail, giving status of packages at several points along the delivery chain.
'We already have a successful time-definite freight product that meets the demands of the international shipping community,' said Jim Hartigan, vice president of United Cargo.' 'United SameDay will now enable us to offer a similar package service to United customers within the U.S.'
