SCPA posts record August box volumes

In addition, the South Carolina Ports Authority announced Monday its plans to develop a second inland port in Dillon, S.C. to support growth of intermodal container volumes and expand access to markets in neighboring states.

The South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA) reported its strongest August container volumes on record with a throughput of 180,153 TEUs during the month, a 5.6 percent increase from August 2015.
Since the start of fiscal year 2017, which began July 1, SCPA has moved 357,420 TEUs, a 3.4 percent year-over-year increase.
“August was a stronger month for the port, particularly in loaded container volume,” SCPA President and CEO Jim Newsome said. “I expect to see similar growth over the next few months, as the fall is a traditionally strong season.”
In addition, August marked a record month for the inland Port Greer, which reported 9,392 rail moves. Overall, Port Greer has handled 16,695 rail moves since the start of fiscal year 2017, a 12 percent year-over-year increase.
Looking ahead, the SCPA revealed it has plans to develop a second inland port in Dillon, S.C. to support the growth of intermodal container volumes and expand access to markets in neighboring states.
