MarAd approves vessel scrapping, flag transfers
The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved the scrapping of the 11,326-gross-ton cable ship “Long Lines.”
C.S. Long Lines of Baltimore will sell the cable ship to Sea Lion Marine of St. Vincent for resale to India’s Priyank Shipbreaking Co. The “Long Lines” was built in Hamburg, Germany in 1963.
MarAd also approved Des Allenmands, La.-based Juanita & Ashley’s transfer of two 1,893-gross-ton U.S.-flag offshore supply vessels to the Mexican flag registry. The vessels, “Ashley Candies” and “Juanita Candies,” were built in Mobile, Ala., in 1999.
MarAd must approve all U.S.-flag vessel scrappings and transfers under section 9 of the 1916 Shipping Act.
