CECIL TO HEAD NEW NCBFAA NVOCC COMMITTEE
The National Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association of America has named Maurine Cecil chairman of its newly formed non-vessel-operating common carrier committee.
Cecil is also regional vice president of Long Beach, Calif.-based American Shipping Co., and president of the Los Angeles Customs Brokers & Freight Forwarders Association.
The NCBFAA membership created the NVOCC committee during its recent annual conference in San Antonio in March. The key areas of the committee are:
* U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection’s advance manifest regulation.
* Rate discrimination by liner carriers and their associations.
* Effect of China’s new international maritime transportation regulations.
* Antitrust immunity of liner carriers.
* Elimination of tariff requirements.
“While NVOCCs share a number of common issues and challenges with forwarders, there are also a number of areas unique to this part of the logistics community that deserve the focused attention of a dedicated group,” Cecil said.
