UPS SERVICES NOW CONNECT TO MOST HAND-HELD WIRELESS DEVICES

   United Parcel Service said most wireless devices owned by its domestic shippers may now be used to calculate freight rates, track shipments, and determine delivery times.

   The service is available to devices such as Web-enabled cell phones, pagers and personal digital assistants. Shippers can sign up for UPS wireless access at http://www.ups.com/wireless.

   “The services are currently available to about 94 percent of U.S. wireless users, and UPS is currently working to reach agreements with companies that serve the remaining 6 percent,” the company said. The service will be extended worldwide by 2001.

   UPS began working with wireless devices in early 1999, via the Palm VII.
