HYUNDAI TARGETS WUHAN FOR EXPANSION IN CHINA
Hyundai Merchant Marine will open a local office in Wuhan next month as a first step to expand its service scope in mainland China’s interior.
Cargo for Wuhan will be barged along the Yangtze river to and from Shanghai, where it will be shipped on Hyundai’s containerships. Alongside other members of the New World Alliance, Hyundai provides direct services in Shanghai for the transpacific, with its “PS3” loop, and for the Asia-Europe trade, with the “CEX” service.
Having opened the local office in Wuhan, sometimes dubbed “the Chicago of China,” Hyundai plans to serve additional inland points in China.
The Korean carrier also aims to upgrade the status of its new Wuhan office to that of a fully-fledged branch office in the year 2003.
