CBP signs security agreement with Peru
U.S. Customs and Border Protection has signed a Customs Mutual Assistance Agreement with Peru that will improve security while also helping the flow of trade and travel between the counties.
The agreement 'will allow for the exchange of information, intelligence and documents that will assist both countries in the prevention of terrorism and customs offenses,' said CBP acting commissioner Deborah Spero.
CBP said the agreement will help enforce basic customs laws, but will also provide a basis for investigations into fraud, money laundering, smuggling, and export controls.
CBP has now signed assistance agreements with 58 customs administrations worldwide.
