MARAD APPROVES SCRAPPING OF TWO SHIPS
The U.S. Maritime Administration has approved applications to scrap two aged U.S.-flag vessels.
International Ship Traders of Wilmington, Del., will sell the 11,800-gross-ton liquid sulfur carrier, “Marine Duval” to Appollo Vikas Steel Ltd. for scrapping in India. The ship was built in Portland, Ore., in 1944.
Patriot Transport of Weehawken, N.J., will sell the 21,572-gross-ton tanker, “Patriot,” to Green Navigation Ltd. in Liberia for scapping in either India or Pakistan. The vessel was built in San Pedro, Calif., in 1976.
MarAd must approve the scrapping of U.S.-flag vessels under section 9 of the 1916 Shipping Act.
