FORMER MAINE GOV. BRENNAN SWORN IN AS FMC COMMISSIONER
Former Maine Governor and Congressman Joseph E. Brennan was sworn in
Wednesday as a commissioner on the Federal Maritime Commission.
Brennan, fills the Democratic seat left vacant since former FMC chairman
William D. Hathaway retired in February 1996.
Brennan served as a U.S. Congressman from 1987 to 1991, representing Maine’s
first congressional district. During that time, he served on the House Armed Services
Committee and the now-dismantled House Merchant Marine & Fisheries Committee.
He served as Governor of Maine from 1979 to 1987.
From 1991-1994, he practiced law with the Washington, D.C. firm of Verner,
Lipfert, Bernhard, McPherson & Hand.
