L-3 sells mobile X-Ray scanners to Italy
L-3 Communications Security & Detection Systems Inc., has sold two of its CX-3800M X-Ray mobile cargo screening systems to Italy. Giuseppe Pisanu, the Italian interior minister, said in Rome the Italian border police would use the scanners to inspect large trucks and shipping containers for contraband in Naples, Bari, Brindisi, Catania, and other ports.
L-3's CX-3800M system has a 3.8 mega-electron volts (MeV) linear accelerator that can penetrate 10.6 inches of steel. The road-legal units sold to Italy were built on Volvo European FM 15 chassis.
