Tibbett & Britten Group PLC, the major U.K.-based
international logistics group, is taking over the distribution activities of U.S.-based
EFL Transportation and the transport and distribution operations of the Remijsen group, of
the Netherlands.
The term of the two separate takeovers were not disclosed.
Tibbett & Britten said that the acquisitions will reinforce its presence in the
Netherlands and the U.S.
The British group is acquiring the assets of Hayward, Calif.-based EFL
Transportation, a company providing distribution services to Gap and a number of other
apparel retailers in Northern California. This is Tibbett & Britten’s first
apparel-related acquisition in North America, where Tibbett & Britten Group North
America already employs over 10,000 people.
The Dutch Remijsen group’s transport and distribution business operates
in the Dutch grocery sector and generates annual revenues of 27 million Dutch guilders
($13 million).
In a separate development, Tibbett & Britten announced the
conditional takeover of the Fort Worth distribution operations of Winn-Dixie. This
transaction is contingent on the Kroger Co., the grocery retailer, obtaining Federal
approval for its acquisition of the Texas division of Winn-Dixie, which operates 74
stores. Kroger is a customer of Tibbett & Britten in the U.S.
