Mexican intermodal inland port opens

Mexican government officials and representatives from Ports America have opened new Puerta M'xico Intermodal Facility, located in Toluca about 40 miles west-southwest of Mexico City.

The 130-acre inland port features nearly 15,000 feet of rail track, about 7.5 acres of container yard, about 7.5 acres of vehicle yard, 66,000 square feet of warehouse storage and an 11,000-square-foot customs office. Ports America estimates the facility's maximum capacity is 150,000 TEUs and 2 million tons of cargo per year. The terminal connects to the United States, as well as the Mexican ports of L'zaro C'rdenas, Manzanillo, and Laredo via the Kansas City Southern de M'xico's intermodal rail corridor.

The PMIF facility, purchased in December by Ports America Group subsidiary Marine Terminals Corp., offers multimodal terminal services, on-site customs and bonded warehousing facilities to ocean carriers, railroads, intermodal and other logistics service providers
