Europe/Canada carriers raise rates
Conference carriers on the route from North Europe to Canada have followed the Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement’s recent decision to raise westbound rates by announcing details of their own rate increases, effective Oct. 1.
The Continental Canadian Westbound Freight Conference and the Canadian North Atlantic Westbound Freight Conference said Thursday that their carrier members plan to introduce a general rate increase on Oct. 1. “This general rate increase was previously announced and is part of the continuing need for the restoration of viable rates,” the conferences said in a joint statement.
The planned increases are $160 per 20-foot container and $200 per 40-foot box for general cargoes and $300 per container for refrigerated cargoes.
Carriers of the North Europe/Canada conferences are: Canada Maritime and sister company Cast, Hapag-Lloyd and Orient Overseas Container Line.
The Trans-Atlantic Conference Agreement said Wednesday it will implement rate increases of $240 per 20-foot container and $300 per 40-foot container, also effective Oct. 1.
