GAO ASSESSES TSAÆS FIRST YEAR OF OPERATION
The General Accounting Office, in a report assessing the Transportation Security Administration’s first year, found that “TSA has made an impressive start in implementing practices” to build “the infrastructure of a large organization as it focused primarily on meeting aviation security deadlines.”
“These practices establish the foundation of a results-oriented culture that will remain critically important when TSA moves into the new Department of Homeland Security,” the GAO report said.
Specifically, the report urged the TSA to determine, in terms of personnel, 'how bonuses will be tied to performance,” to improve “the collaboration and communication” roles of TSA’s various offices, and to fill an ombudsman’s position to make TSA more responsive to the public.
