U.S., EU confer on anti-terror strategy
U.S. Homeland Security Commissioner met Monday in Washington with Antonio Vitorino, the European Union Commissioner of Justice and Home Affairs and Gijs de Vries, the EU’s new counterterrorism coordinator, to discuss transatlantic security cooperation.
Discussions focused on passenger aviation security measures, such as sharing advance passenger lists and strengthened visa and passport controls, as well as port protection.
A few weeks ago, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the European Commission signed an agreement to share authority for expanding the Container Security Initiative within EU ports.
