PORT OF LOS ANGELES REPORTS FLAT INBOUND CONTAINER VOLUME FOR APRIL

   The port of Los Angeles saw its traffic of loaded inbound container for April remain virtually as the same level as last April.

   Imports totaled 210,732 TEUs, compared with 211,262 TEUs in April last year, a decrease of 0.3 percent.

   By contrast, containerized exports increase 3.3 percent, to 88,057 TEUs, in April.

   Overall, including empty containers, the port of Los Angeles handled 417,420 TEUs during the month of April, up 2.5 percent as compared with April 2000.

   For the first four months of the calendar year, total port container traffic rose 6 percent overall, to 1.55 million TEUs, from 1.46 million TEUs in the corresponding period of 2000.
