MARINE TRANSPORT NAMES VP, SHIP MANAGEMENT

   Marine Transport Corp., which was acquired by Crowley Maritime Corp. in February, has named Rockwell Smith vice president of its ship management group, based in Weehawken, N.J.

   Smith, who has served as vice president of Crowley Petroleum Transport since 1997, replaced Bob Germain who retired March 16. Smith's previous positions with Crowley include vice president of oil transportation and harbor services and manager of oil transportation, Pacific division.

   He is responsible for Marine Transport's fleet operations, in addition to continuing to oversee the management of Crowley's three petroleum tankers.

   Marine Transport provides transport of chemicals, petroleum products and crude oil, lightering services in the U.S. Gulf and ship management services for third-party ship owners, including the U.S. government.
