Enforcement of food security rules to tighten
Food imports will be denied entry to the United States beginning Friday if U.S. distributors do not file prior notice of the shipments, as required by the Food and Drug Administration. The notice must be filed two hours in advance for products shipped by truck, four hours for rail and air and eight hours for ocean shipments.
Under third phase of enforcement, goods without the proper prior notice, will be held at the port of entry or a registered facility by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Penalties for non-compliance will begin in mid-August, when full enforcement goes into effect.
