NEW WORLD ALLIANCE, EVERGREEN END PACIFIC SLOT EXCHANGES

The New World Alliance of APL, Hyundai Merchant Marine and MOL has stopped its slot exchange arrangement in the transpacific trade with Evergreen Line.

Under the former agreement, the New World Alliance took slots on Evergreen’s Asia/Pacific Northwest “WAE” service and on its Asia/U.S. Easy Coast “AUE” all-water link. In return, Evergreen had space on the New World Alliance’s Asia/Pacific Northwest “PNW” ships and on its Asia/Pacific Southwest/Pacific Northwest “PS1” service.

Ron Widdows, acting chief executive officer of APL Liner, described the former arrangement as a minor agreement with Evergreen.

APL continues to take slots on the “NUE” transpacific service of Evergreen, which it markets as the Korea Japan Express service.

The new slot exchange partners of Evergreen and its sister company Lloyd Triestino in the transpacific trade are CMA CGM and Maersk Sealand.

Meanwhile, the New World Alliance carriers and Maersk Sealand also swap slots in the transpacific.
