Hollings set to propose port security amendments
Sen. Earnest Hollings said he intends to offer two amendments to the Homeland Security Appropriations bill today to boost port and maritime security funding.
One amendment would boost port security grant funding to $610 million from $150 million. The other would add $55 million to the Coast Guard budget to fund transponder systems to track vessels as required by the Maritime Security Transportation Act.
Hollings began to introduce the measures in Wednesday’s Appropriations homeland security subcommittee, but agreed to wait until the full committee edits the bill today.
