Hutchison brings new cranes to Korean terminal

Hutchison Korea Terminals, a subsidiary of Hutchison Port Holdings, has taken delivery of three new quay cranes at its Busan terminal to replace and expand the crane capacity destroyed in September by the “Maemi” typhoon.

The three “super post-Panamax” quay cranes will be deployed at the Hutchison Busan Container Terminal. They have a 20-container-wide outreach and a lift capacity of 61 tons. These cranes are capable of lifting two containers at the same time.

After test operation and commissioning, the cranes are scheduled to commence operation in early December.

Two quay cranes were destroyed by the typhoon. Three other cranes at the terminal, which were derailed by the typhoon, were repaired and brought back into normal operation in October.
