Savannah handled 15% more containers in April

   The Port of Savannah, Ga. handled 1.1 million container tons in April, 15 percent more than in April of last year.

   The port also saw the number of TEUs exported increase 25 percent in April, from a small base. A total of 59,997 TEUs were exported from the port of Savannah as compared to 48,141 TEUs last year.

      Georgia Ports Authority said export of forest products such as linerboard and fluff pulps, as well as kaolin clay, had surged in recent months.
