RailAmerica’s carloads down 1.6% in July
RailAmerica Inc., a holding company for 42 short-line railroads operating on about 7,800 track miles in the United States and Canada, said its freight carloads were down 1.6 percent in July to 100,540 from 102,157 in the same month last year.
“The July 2006 carloads were primarily affected by an increase in shipments of metal products, offset by lower shipments of lumber and forest products, paper products and coal,” RailAmerica said.
For the year to date, RailAmerica’s total carloads were down 2.6 percent to 739,472 from 759,105 in the same seven-month period 2005.
