Missouri asks to reup CDL test reprieve

Veterans with dedicated training are given pass on knowledge exam.

The state of Missouri wants to continue to waive a knowledge test for qualified veterans seeking commercial driver’s licenses.
The Missouri Department of Revenue filed an application with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration for renewal of its exemption from the agency’s CDL regulations. The exemption renewal would allow the Missouri DOR to continue to waive the mandatory knowledge test requirement for qualified veterans who participated in dedicated training in approved military programs.
“The Missouri DOR states that its goal is to continue to assist qualified veterans in obtaining employment when returning to the civilian workforce, and granting this exemption renewal will assist those veterans who have already been through extensive military training,” according to the Federal Register.
The current exemption expires Oct. 29. The Missouri DOR is requesting a two-year renewal.
FMCA is accepting public comment on the application through Sept. 7. Comments may be submitted online.
