SHANE APPROVED FOR SENIOR DOT POLICY POSITION

The U.S. Senate has approved Jeffrey N. Shane’s nomination to first undersecretary of transportation for policy at the Transportation Department.

In this position, Shane will manage all aspects of transportation policy development in DOT.

Since 1993, various policy development areas were split between three offices: Transportation Policy, Aviation and International Affairs, and the Office of Intermodalism, each with an individually Senate-confirmed presidential appointee.

“Under the reorganization, all three areas now report to the undersecretary, who is also charged with convening groups of transportation policy experts from throughout the department to assist and advise the secretary,” DOT said.

Shane formerly served as associate deputy secretary when President Bush appointed him to the position in March 2002. Previously, he was a partner with Washington law firm Hogan & Harston.
