NCITD URGES BXA TO REEVALUATE UNILATERAL EXPORT CONTROLS
The U.S. International Trade Commission has released reports that help the government monitor the impact of fresh or chilled tomato and pepper imports on U.S. growers.
Under the North American Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act, the ITC is responsible for monitoring tomato and pepper imports until Jan. 1, 2009. If it’s discovered that these imports are hurting U.S. growers’ ability to compete, the President can take action under the 1974 Trade Act and NAFTA. The reports also provide information on the current conditions of the U.S. industry in areas such as production, imports, exports and prices.
The reports, Monitoring of U.S. Imports of Tomatoes and Monitoring of U.S. Imports of Peppers, will be available on the ITC’s Web site at http://www.usitc.gov.
