ANZDL OFFERS ONLINE PROCESSING OF FUMIGATION CERTIFICATES
Australia-New Zealand Direct Line now provides fumigation certificates while shippers process their bills of lading online.
Fumigation documents are required by quarantine agencies in Australia and New Zealand for about 50 percent of the carrier's shipments. 'Basically, anything that is packed on pallets, loaded into cardboard boxes or contains wood products, such as furniture, requires a fumigation certificate,' said Frank Lavarini, vice president of information services for ANZDL.
Prior to electronic filing, shippers had to send the original fumigation certificate to their consignee, along with the bill of lading, which prevented them from using ANZDL's online bill of lading service.
'This new service has held us so we no longer have to wait for the fumigation certificate because it now arrives at the same time as the bill of lading,' said Peter Gauthier, team leader for MG Maher & Co.
