MTMC TO START SYSTEMS REVIEW IN EARLY 2002

The U.S. Military Traffic Management Command said it will begin a review of its surface transportation logistics systems early next year.

The agency plans to take advantage of available commercial software and systems. In the past, MTMC has used its own software developers to fit its military-specific requirements.

Capt. Pat Elliot, director of MTMC Automated Transportation Systems, said the agency will replace several military systems with commercial off-the-shelf systems in the coming year. The first two systems under review are MTMC’s Global Freight Management and Integrated Booking systems.

A new commercial system could be in place at MTMC by 2003, Elliot said.
