Hatsu appoints Storey, former MCA head, as chairman
Maurice Storey, the former chief executive of the U.K. Maritime and Coastguard Agency, will become chairman of Hatsu Marine Ltd., the U.K. affiliate of the Evergreen group.
Storey, who recently retired from his position at the agency, will take up the full-time appointment with Hatsu on Dec. 1. Prior to his joining the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Storey had spent eight years as director, ship and port management, with Stena Line Ltd.
Jason Lin will continue as president of Hatsu.
Established in January 2002 with its headquarters in London, Hatsu owns a fleet of seven U.K.-flag container vessels, including five 6,332-TEU ships currently operating in the transpacific trades.
“Within the next two to three years, Hatsu will take delivery of several more container vessels, including post-Panamax giants of 6,700 TEUs and 8,100TEUs,” the Evergreen group said.
In association with other Evergreen group companies, Hatsu currently offers container services between Asia and North America. Towards the end of this year, it expects to launch services linking Asia and Europe.
Hatsu said that it will increase the size of its fleet, along with its ship management and operations activities.
