Two new DHL facilities were created for a total of 30.5 million euros.
DHL has invested 30.5 million euros ($38.82 million) across two projects in South Africa, beefing up is supply chain and global forwarding divisions.
DHL Global Forwarding spent 16 million euros on a 12,000-square-meter facility, and DHL Supply Chain unveiled a 14.5 million euro multi-user warehouse spanning 25,000 square meters.
The two facilities are located in Pumbago closed to the OR Tambo International Airport near Johannesburg.
“We are implementing international best practices at Plumbago, and this will become the model for other facilities across the country. Our long-term strategy is to develop warehouses in prime locations,” said Craig Roberts, DHL Supply Chain’s chief executive officer for the Middle East and Africa.
“Such investments are long-term in nature, and reflect DHL Supply Chain’s commitment to Africa,” he continued. “We have an ambitious growth strategy for this region and intend to use our South African assets as a springboard into the rest of Africa.”
