MARAD, ENERGY, EPA PLAN MARITIME ENERGY AND CLEAN EMISSIONS WORKSHOP
The U.S. Maritime Administration, the Energy Department, and the Environmental Protection Agency will hold a two-day workshop on maritime energy and clean admissions in Washington, Jan. 29-30.
The first day of the workshop will consider how ports and other transportation modes deal with energy and environmental issues, and will examine the impact of state, federal and international policies.
The second day will focus on various technologies and methods being explored to improve energy efficiency and reduce air pollution. Several international speakers will also address policies affecting maritime energy and emissions in their countries.
Speakers at the workshop include Transportation Secretary Norman Y. Mineta; Maritime Administrator Capt. William G. Schubert; David K. Garman, assistant secretary of the Energy Department; Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo, R-N.J., chairman of the House Coast Guard and Marine Transportation Subcommittee; and Sveinung Oftedal of the Norwedian Maritime Directorate.
