OMI agrees to pay $4-million fine after pollution investigation
OMI Corp., the Stamford, Conn.-based tanker shipping company, said on Thursday that it has reached an agreement in principle with the U.S. Department of Justice to pay a $4.2-million fine following an investigation into an alleged pollution by one of its ships.
Under the agreement, OMI would also plead guilty to one count of knowingly violating regulations promulgated under the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, by failing to maintain an oil record book.
OMI has a fleet currently of 36 vessels, primarily “Suezmax” tankers and product carriers.
