FIRE-DAMAGED CSX SHIP HEADS TO PORT UNDER RESTORED POWER
The 'CSX Expedition,' a 670-foot containership carrying refrigerated cargo and operated by CSX Lines, was expected to arrive Wednesday under its own power at the port of Anchorage, Alaska, a company spokesman said.
An electrical fire in the vessel’s switchboard the evening of June 16 caused the ship to lose power, leaving it disabled and adrift 140 miles from shore about 180 miles southwest of Sitka.
“The crew of 27 worked around the clock to restore partial power, allowing the ship to get underway. The 'CSX Expedition’s' making 14 knots on one boiler,” CSX’s spokesman said.
