Second phase of deepening of Yangtze channel starts

Two dredgers were positioned to the mouth of the Yangtze river to start a 22-month-long, second phase dredge project of the river’s deep-water.

China Ocean Shipping Co. reported that the length being dredged is 73 kilometers, with a volume of 78 million square meters. The designed depth will be 10 meters when the project is completed in about October 2005.

The dredging project is divided into three phases. On completion of the third phase, the draft at the mouth of the Yangtze will be 12.5 meters, COSCO said.
