RICKMERS-LINIE ORDERS FOUR CONTAINERSHIPS
Hamburg-based Rickmers-Linie has ordered four 30,000 deadweight-ton multipurpose vessels, with an option for four more.
The vessels, to be built in China for delivery in 2002, have capacities of 1,900 TEUs, heavy-lift capacities of up to 640 tons and operating speeds of 19.5 knots.
Once delivered, the vessels will be deployed in Rickmers-Linie's round-the-world “Pearl String” service, providing 10-day service frequency between Europe, the Far East and North America.
The vessels will replace older tonnage in the service.
