ITC investigates patent infringement case involving electronic imports
The U.S. International Trade Commission has voted to start an investigation into a patent infringement case involving imports of digital processors and related components.
The ITC based its investigation on a complaint filed by BIAX Corp. of Boulder, Colo., Dec. 7. The agency has identified four respondents in this investigation: Texas Instruments of Dallas; iBiquity Digital Corp. of Columbia, Md.; Kenwood Corp. in Japan; and Kenwood U.S.A. of Long Beach, Calif.
The ITC said it has not yet made any decision on the merits of the case. The case will be referred to Judge Sidney Harris, an ITC administrative law judge, who will schedule and hold an evidentiary hearing. Harris will make an initial determination on whether there is a violation of section 337 of the 1930 Trade Act. That initial determination is subject to review by the commission.
Digital processors have a wide range of application, such as personal computers, cellular telephones, audio and video communication systems. medical imaging systems, and automobiles.
