U.S. Chamber urges further reforms at Summit of the Americas

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has issued a statement urging further moves to increase free trade as leaders from throughout the Americas gather in Argentina for the two-day Summit of the Americas.

'In an evolving and competitive global marketplace, it becomes increasingly important to lower barriers to trade,' said John Murphy, U.S. Chamber vice president for Western Hemisphere affairs. 'This declaration urges reforms that will enhance competitiveness, spur broader economic growth and boost job creation throughout the hemisphere.'

To broaden its appeal for greater free trade reforms, the U.S. Chamber has helped organize an ad hoc international coalition of organizations supporting free trade. The group includes Brazil's National Confederation of Industry, Chile's Confederation of Production and Commerce, the Argentine Chamber of Commerce, and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Other members include the hemisphere's 24 American Chambers of Commerce, the Mexican Council for Foreign Trade, and the Latin American Association of Express Delivery Companies.
