APEC AGRICULTURAL TRADE SPECIALISTS TO MEET IN HAWAII
The United States and Japan will co-host the fourth annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Council’s Agricultural Technical Cooperation Experts Group in Kona, Hawaii, May 15-19.
APEC was created in 1989 to promote cooperation on trade and other economic issues in the Pacific Rim. U.S. agricultural exports to this regions amounted to more than $30 billion last year.
Representatives from 23 Pacific Rim countries and the United States will discuss issues such as plant and animal quarantine and pest management; and increases in agricultural biotechnology. A tour will also be conducted of Hawaii’s new irradiation facility.
