Maersk Sealand adds Muscat to U.S./Middle East/India service

Maersk Sealand is adding a call at Muscat in Oman to its weekly “Middle East Container Line” service.

The “MECL” service will continue with seven ships averaging 4,227 TEUs, and will have a revised port rotation of Charleston, Norfolk, New York, Algeciras, Jeddah, Salalah, Muscat, Jebel Ali, Nhava Sheva, Salalah, Charleston, Norfolk and New York.

Safmarine Container Lines, P&O Nedlloyd Container Line, APL, Evergreen and Hapag-Lloyd take space on various sections of the “MECL” service.

Maersk Sealand recently said it has dropped calls at Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Gioia Tauro, Italy, from the “MECL” service in order to reduce transit times from the Middle East and India to the U.S. East Coast. Safmarine has said it intends to serve Halifax via feeder.
