COSCO SUBSIDIARIES TO EMERGE FROM GROUP NAME UMBRELLA
China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company, the large state-owned shipping
organisation of China, states that from midnight local time (everywhere), on Feb. 15,
2000, all its subsidiary corporations will trade under their own distinct names.
Agents around the world are warned not to sign any of the old-format Bills of
Lading after this time – at their own risk. All Bills of Lading with the heading of
"China Ocean Shipping Company" or "China Ocean Shipping (Group)
Company" are to be sealed up or destroyed by then, COSCO said.
COSCO’s container shipping subsidiary, COSCO Container Lines Co. (COSCON),
introduced its own new Bill of Lading on Jul. 1, 1998 and other examples of the more
distinct trading names are COSCO Bulk Carrier Co. and and Guangzhou Ocean Shipping Co.
