Coast Guard lifts vessel restrictions on James River
The U.S. Coast Guard said an oil spill resulting from the grounding on May 8 of a tank barge in the James River near Richmond, Va., has been cleaned up, and the river reopened to all traffic.
An estimated 9,600 gallons of oily waste was recovered. The barge has been moved to Lyon Shipyard in Norfolk, Va., for repair.
'The environmental impact has been minimal, with only one oiled bird found,' the Coast Guard said in a statement. An investigation into why the barge grounded is continuing.
